I spoke with Hugh from SXSW on Monday night, and he told me they have 110 women speakers at SXSW Interactive this year.
w00t, if I may be so undeservedly geeky.
(Now, yes, I did ask "out of how many", and it's out of about 300, but still...gotta give 'em some props.)
I lift my head from the alpha-version of the new BlogHer Web site to confirm - we all interrogated Hugh on this point. SXSW has done a fantastic job--and, frankly, Forrest has worked overtime himself--to deliver a terrific discussion roster where women aren't tokens, aren't exceptions, aren't pedestaled. As a result it feels natural to be part of the SXSW discussion.

Yet another reason why Austin kicks butt! Who knew Texans could be so enlightened? :-)

WOWZA! I think BlogHers directors deserve some of the kudos for this -- for making it an issue. And I love that SXSW took notice.
